QUESTION:
Why will Outlook Express not allow me to download certain attachments and why is the security option "greyed" out?
POSSIBLE SOLUTION(S):
You are unable to receive attachments because the Outlook Express setting "Do not allow attachments to be opened or saved that could potentially be a virus" is checked and greyed out.
Tellurian has created the following procedure to address this problem:
- Make sure that no programs are currently running, including Outlook Express
- Click Start, then Run
- In the Run dialog box, type "regedit" into the "Open:" field without quotes and click "OK"
- Once REGEDIT is open, click the plus (+) symbol by HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
- Click the plus (+) symbol by SOFTWARE
- Click the plus (+) symbol by Microsoft
- Click on "Outlook Express" once to highlight it
- In the right hand pane, double-click "BlockExeAttachments"
- For "Value Data" enter 0 and then click "OK"
- Exit REGEDIT and restart your machine
- After your machine restarts, open Outlook Express and go to Tools > Options and then to the Security tab. The option "Do not allow attachments to be opened or saved that could potentially be a virus" can be checked or unchecked it based on your preference.
