Frequently Asked Questions

QUESTION:

Why does Microsoft Outlook Express or Microsoft Outlook report an error when downloading messages and why do I keep getting the same messages over and over?

POSSIBLE SOLUTION(S):

This is usually caused by Outlook Express or Outlook encountering a corrupt or malformed e-mail message or messages (usually SPAM) when it attempts to download new messages from the Skylands Networks mail server. When Outlook Express or Outlook cannot successfully download the new messages, it reports a download error and subsequent attempts to download new messages will result in duplicate messages and/or repeated error messages.

While there is no clear cut solution to fix this problem, we recommend that you exit Outlook Express or Outlook, open Internet Explorer, go the Skylands Networks web site, and then click the Skylands Webmail link in the upper right corner of any web page to log into your mailbox. After you log into Webmail, delete as many messages as possible to remove the rogue message(s), then log off Skylands Webmail and try Outlook Express or Outlook again. You should be able to download the remaining new messages normally, but if not, repeat the procedure above to exit Outlook Express or Outlook and then log back into Webmail to delete any remaining rogue messages.
