MAC OS 8 Setup

The following instructions are for setting up MAC OS 8.6/9.x

  1. Open the Internet Set-up Assistant.
  2. The Internet Set-up Assistant will ask you if you would like to set up your computer to use the Internet. Click Yes.
  3. The Assistant will ask you if you already have an internet account. Click Yes.
  4. The Assistant will give you an introduction, telling you what information is necessary. Click the Right arrow.
  5. The Assistant will ask you for a name for the configuration. Type Skylands Networks. It will also ask you how you will be connecting to the Internet. Click Modem. Then click the Right arrow.
  6. The next screen asks what type of modem you are using. This should just default to the modem installed in your machine. It should also default to the port you are using for that modem. Choose tone or pulse depending on your phone line type. Click the Right arrow.
  7. Enter the access number in which to dial (this will be found on your customer information sheet, provided by Skylands Networks). In the next field enter your username (found on your customer information sheet). Then fill in your password in the last field. Click the Right arrow.
  8. It will ask if your ISP requires a PPP Connect Script to log in. Click No. Click the Right arrow.
  9. It will ask if you have an IP address for this configuration. Click No. Click the Right arrow.
  10. It will ask for DNS address for the configuration. Enter the following on separate lines:

    • 216.182.32.1
    • 216.182.32.2

    Then enter the Domain Name for this configuration as the following:

    • skylands.net
    • Click the Right arrow.

  11. Enter your email address (provided on your customer information sheet. ie. username@skylands.net). Then enter your email password (same as your username password). Click the Right arrow.
  12. It will ask for the email account for this configuration. Enter as the following:

    • username@pop3.skylands.net

    Then it will ask for the SMTP host. Enter as the following:

    • smtp.skylands.net

    Click the Right arrow.

  13. It will ask for the NNTP (Network News Transfer Protocol) host. Enter as the following:

    • news.skylands.net

    Click the Right arrow.

  14. It will ask if you use a proxy server for Internet connections. Click No. Then click the Right arrow.
  15. The assistant is now finished collecting the necessary information. Click Go Ahead. You are now set-up to connect to Skylands Networks!
