MAC OS X Setup

The following instructions explain how to set-up MAC OS X to dial and connect to Skylands Networks.


1. Click Apple and choose System Preferences.

2. Click Network.

3. Click the arrow on the top Configure pop-up list and choose Internal Modem.
4. On the TCP/IP tab:

a. Click the arrow in the Configure pop-up list and choose Using PPP.

b. In the Domain Name Servers box, type the following DNS server addresses:

216.182.32.1
216.182.32.2

c. In the Search Domains box, type skylands.net

5. Click on the PPP tab.

a. For Service Provider, enter Skylands Networks.

b. For Telephone Number, enter the access number given to you by Skylands Networks.

c. Enter an Alternate Number (optional) if one was given to you.

d. In the Account Name box, enter your username.

e. In the Password box, enter your password. Check Save Password.

6. Click the PPP Options button. All of the options here are optional, but we suggest the following configuration:

a. Check Connect automatically when starting TCP/IP applications

b. Uncheck Prompt to stay connected..

c. Uncheck Disconnect if idle for..

d. Check Disconnect when user logs out

e. Check Redial if busy and set it to try 10 times, waiting 20 seconds before redialing.

Leave the Advanced Options at their defaults. Click OK.

7. Click on the Proxies tab. Uncheck ALL of the boxes.

8. Click the Modem tab.

a. Choose your modem, usually Apple Internal 56k Modem from the Modem pop-up menu.

b. Select if you want the modem's sound On or Off.

c. Set Dialing to Tone.

9. Click the Save button.
10. Close the Network Window. Your Mac is now set-up to dial Skylands Networks!
